Did you know that one of the largest contributors to climate change is the way the meat we eat is produced?
Globally, 56 billion animals are raised and killed each year!
That’s heartbreaking! But it’s also really bad for our planet.
Greenhouse gases are responsible for climate change by trapping solar energy in the atmosphere. A large percentage of human-caused greenhouse gases come from the meat industry. By cutting down forests to make land for raising livestock, fewer trees remain to convert carbon dioxide into the oxygen that is so vital for life. Instead of feeding the hungry and the poor, 70% of crops grown are fed to livestock, which produce large amounts of waste and methane gas – a greenhouse gas that is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide!
Let’s show mercy for the animals that coexist with us, and compassion for Mother Earth, our only home.
Join Tzu Chi & let’s bring awareness to the benefits of vegetarianism.
If we all joined in, this is the effect it would have on greenhouse gases emissions:
Take the first step towards a brighter future, because together,
WE CAN make a difference!
