About the Speaker

“We should measure our graciousness according to the cleanliness of our public toilets”.
These words by then-PM Goh Chok Tong resonated deeply with Jack Sim. Currently, 2.5 billion people do not have access to proper sanitation, and 1.5 million people die from sanitation-related causes per year.

As such, former businessman Jack Sim took it upon himself to flush out the problem, and founded the World Toilet Organisation (WTO) in 2001, which works with governments towards delivering sustainable sanitation and public health policies.

The WTO motioned for 19 November to be recognised as the official UN World Toilet Day. Today, World Toilet Day has an annual outreach of 3 billion annually. Recognised as Time magazine’s “Hero of the Environment” in 2008, Jack believes that there is greater satisfaction in helping others than fulfilling one’s material pleasures.

“On our last day of life, we do not say: I’ve got more money than you, hahaha… and die”. – Jack Sim

Join us on Thursday, 12 January 2017 at 7.30pm for an evening of inspiration and roaring laughter as Jack enthrals us with his unique blend of potty humour and hard facts. Sewer there!
